The Quebec Mercury was an English-language newspaper first published on January 5, 1805. Originally published as a weekly, it began publishing twice weekly in 1816, thrice weekly in 1832, and daily (except Sunday) in 1863. By the end of the nineteenth century, there was great competition in the English-language newspaper market in Quebec City, and the newspaper folded in 1903, with its last edition being published on October 17 of that year. The newspaper cited the limited market for an English newspaper in Quebec and the other two other English newspapers in the city as the reasons for its closure.
