Considerable comment has been made on the statement of General Washburn, president of the "Soo Road", to the effect that the Canadian Pacific has not obtained a controlling interest in his line. The general impression among railroad men is that such an interest was being negotiated for, and could have been secured if the Canadian Pacific wanted it, but that the Company was really figuring for the DSS&A Ry., all the time, and dropped the deal with the "Soo" people when the other was consummated. As a matter of course, all this is guesswork but there are many reasons for believing that those who hold this opinion are not far out of the way.
